Which EQUINOX Should You Buy?
Choose the EQUINOX 700 if...
You primarily hunt coins, jewelry, relics, parks, fields, beaches, or shallow water and want the same Multi-IQ platform, Target ID resolution, waterproofing, shaft, wireless headphones, and standard coil as the 900 without paying for its additional controls.
Choose the EQUINOX 900 if...
You prospect for natural gold, regularly hunt dense iron or trash, want finer control over recovery speed and Iron Bias, or would otherwise purchase the EQX06 coil separately.
The Most Important Differences
The EQUINOX 700 and 900 are not separated by waterproof depth, Target ID resolution, overall weight, shaft construction, or wireless headphones. The 900 earns its higher position through Gold mode, 20 and 40 kHz single frequencies, greater sensitivity, eight recovery-speed levels instead of three, a wider Iron Bias range, manual Noise Cancel, a User Profile shortcut, and the included EQX06 coil.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the EQUINOX 900 detect deeper than the 700?
There is no universal depth increase that applies to every target and site. Both use Multi-IQ and the EQX11 coil. The 900 provides finer recovery-speed, Iron Bias, sensitivity, frequency, and audio control, which can help an experienced user optimize performance for specific conditions.
Can the EQUINOX 700 find gold?
Yes. Park 2 and Field 2 can respond well to small low-conductive targets. The 900 is the stronger prospecting choice because it adds dedicated Gold mode plus 20 and 40 kHz single-frequency operation.
Are both detectors fully waterproof?
Yes. The EQUINOX 700 and EQUINOX 900 are IP68 rated and fully submersible to 5 m / 16 ft. Their supplied EQX search coils are waterproof as well.
Can the EQUINOX 700 use the EQX06 coil?
Yes. The EQX06, EQX11, and EQX15 coils are compatible with both detectors. The difference is that the EQX06 is included with the EQUINOX 900 but sold separately for the EQUINOX 700.
Do both models include wireless headphones?
Yes. The standard EQUINOX 700 and EQUINOX 900 packages both include Minelab ML85 low-latency wireless headphones.
Is the EQUINOX 900 worth the difference?
The 900 is worth considering when you will use Gold mode, the higher single frequencies, the wider adjustment ranges, or the included EQX06 coil. For general coin, jewelry, relic, and beach detecting, the 700 retains the most important shared capabilities.
